Most of my friends will rent dvds of anime just to hear what the voices sound like in English. I do not believe fansubs should be legal for licensed anime and anime that the japanese company does not want their anime fansubed. but for anime that is not licensed and the company does not care or might prefer it. I think that fansubs should definitely be legal.
