My choices would be:
Raven-Symone: she has a great voice for voice over, also has a great range and can sing.
Jurnee Smollett: she was in eve's bayou, a film about creole blacks and most recently roll bounce, she can sing has has a real creole background.
Why is Randy Newman composing this? Alan menken would be the best choice to give it that real magic disney feel. I dont wanna groove to randy's annoying music.
Does anyone really still listen to any of his soundtracks? i know the music from the little mermaid and that ilk still gets played regularly in my house, just look at the youtube viewings of the alan menken songs. people love them.

- The Frog Princess
There are a few other articles on the Frog Princess in my back catalog, if you haven't read them yet, they'll give you a good idea of what this movie will entail.
- These aren't *my* choices for Maddy, they're the known frontrunners for the role. Based on what I heard at the Grammy Awards, I prefer Jennifer Hudson's vocals to Beyoncé Knowles': I think Hudson has the stronger highs (notice during the duets, Hudson was singing the higher parts while Beyoncé went low?). I haven't heard Anika Noni Rose sing (I haven't seen Dreamgirls yet) but a Tony Award speaks volumes for this woman's talent.
- As I mentioned before, John Lasseter pulled Alan Menken off Frog Princess because Menken's already working on several Disney projects, including Enchanted. I believe Lasseter went with Newman because Newman is from New Orleans and he felt that Newman has a better feeling for New Orleans jazz.
Cheers,
Dominic

- Casting for Disney's "The Frog Princess"
Actually, Disney has rarely gone with famous names when casting their animated movies, and the ones that do rarely go over as well with audiences.
Case in point: Demi Moore sucking in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and David Spade sucking big-time in The Emperor's New Groove. Neither of them did well at the box office.
You will often see veterans coming back as animated characters (Angela Lansbury in Beauty and the Beast or John Ratzenberger in nearly every Pixar flick). But those are reliable character actors, not pretty faces.
Off-hand, the only "big stars" I've seen voicing characters in Pixar flicks are Tom Hanks and Tim Allen from Toy Story, Owen Wilson & Paul Newman from Cars (hmm, both John Lasseter pics) and John Goodman and Billy Crystal from Monsters Inc. Generally, you see either veterans (John Ratzenberger again) or talented C-listers such as Holly Hunter and Craig T. Nelson in The Incredibles.
The jury is still out on whether John Lasseter is a good thing for Disney Animation but he seems to be making all the right moves so far. Hopefully he can continue this when casting the Frog Princess. I would love to see a talented unknown from New Orleans get the role of Maddy, especially one that actually looks like a normal black woman!
